A focus of this course will be on using lasers for management of mucogingival complex around implants during active implant treatment or implant maintenance phase.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
1) Identify laser type (wavelengths) that may be beneficial for your dental implant practice.
2) Discuss laser applications in implant surgery, and for management of peri-implantitis.
3) Explain how laser applications could be beneficial in management of the mucogingival complex around implants during active phase of implant treatment or as part of implant maintenance.

Mehrdad Favagehi, DDS, MS

Dr. Mehrdad Favagehi is a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration. He maintains a private practice in a Northern Virginia suburb of the Washington, DC. He received his DDS from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry where he has served as part-time instructor since 1998 and for which he received a Teaching & Mentorship award from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) in 2011. Dr. Favagehi was a course co-director of VCU Laser Symposia. He has authored a book chapter about using lasers in periodontics (Chapter 4, Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry, 3rd Edition, Elsevier, 2023). He has extensive experience with different laser wavelengths and has given many laser presentations at different conferences including AAP, AO and Academy of Laser Dentistry annual meetings. Dr. Favagehi is the Editor-in-Chief of the Academy of Osseointegration newsletter and the current President of the Osseointegration Foundation.
